Bail for miner accused of stealing gold, other items from shop

A miner was granted bail after pleading not guilty to a break and entry charge that was read to him by Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Dennis Calder, 19, was accused of breaking and entering a shop owned by Winnick Spencer at Whitewater Backdam, located in Region 3, on October 21, 2018. He allegedly stole $460,000 worth of items, inclusive of four ounces of raw gold.

Calder pleaded not guilty and was granted $70,000 bail.

The matter is adjourned until January 7, 2019.
