Every year on March 8, International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated the world over with thousands of events held by women’s networks which include global gatherings, conferences, award ceremonies, exhibitions, festivals, fun runs, corporate events, concert performances etc.
This year, the Guyana Powerlifting Federation (GAPLF) will play their part in observance of the day by staging a powerlifting exhibition tomorrow involving the female lifters at the Pollo Tropical restaurant on Robb and Camp streets.
The two-hour event starts at 11:00hrs.
March 8 saw the Annual IWD campaign kick off for the year ahead under the theme #PressforProgress. Many groups around the world adopt and promote the campaign theme from early in the year since it provides a unified direction to guide and galvanize collective action.
The campaign theme does not end on International Women’s Day. It’s just the beginning.
Throughout the year many groups worldwide adopt the IWD campaign theme for further work, gender-focused initiatives, continuing activities and events.
