NEW PLYMOUTH, New Zealand, CMC – West Indies Women’s chances of getting their first win on the tour of New Zealand were dashed when the fourth Twenty20 International was abandoned without a ball bowled due to rain here Thursday.
Heavy early morning showers left Pukekura Park unfit for play and following two inspections, and with more rain in the forecast, match officials decided play would not be possible in the contest.
West Indies Women trail 0-3 in the five-match series and captain Stafanie Taylor said the washout had been a setback especially with the Caribbean side trying to rescue pride.
“It’s a bit disappointing having the match abandoned today because we felt like it would’ve been another close game and we were looking forward to getting that first win,” she said.
“But we’ll now switch our focus to the last match in Hamilton on Sunday and on finishing the tour on a winning note.”
Windies Women suffered a whitewash in the preceding three-match one-day series before losing the two opening T20s in Mount Maunganui and also going down in the third here Tuesday.
The final match is carded for Seddon Park in Hamilton on Sunday.
