Police triumph over Hopetown-A

Defending champion Georgetown Police and No. 5 village secured contrasting wins when the second annual GT-Beer 8-a-side Football Championship continued on Friday at the All-Saints ground.

Georgetown Police arrested Hopetown-A by a 5-3 scoreline. Hopetown-A secured the unexpected lead, as Tafo James made his presence felt in the sixth minute.

The lead proved to be short-lived as Rawle Caleb equalised through a ninth minute effort. A quick-fire double from Deon Rodney strengthened the officers’ grip on the contest.

Rodney opened his account compliments of a 13th minute conversion. He then doubled his tally as he found the back of the net in the 15th minute.

The scoreline ballooned to 4-1 in the 21st minute as Dexroy Adams etched his name on the scorer’s sheet. Hopetown eventually pulled one back in the 24th minute as Darrel Douglas found a way past the opposing custodian. However, Travis Jones restored the lawmen’s sizeable lead with a 45th minute effort.

With the contest firmly in their control, Georgetown Police conceded a Kevin Varoy goal in the 57th minute. Meanwhile, No. 5 village edged Cougars XX 1-0 on sudden death penalty kicks after regulation time ended scoreless.
