No bail for miner charged with robbing camp of $1.6M in equipment

A miner was yesterday remanded for allegedly robbing his former workplace of $1.6 million in equipment.

It is alleged that Conrad Henry also robbed a co-worker and used violence during the attack.

He is alleged to have committed the offences on November 13th, 2018, at 26 Mile Backdam, Matthews Ridge, North West District.

Henry allegedly robbed Hinds Joseph of a Caterpillar computer box and other equipment, which was valued $1.6 million and was the property of James Fowler.

It is also alleged that he robbed Joseph of a cellphone, valued $26,000, and used personal violence against him.

Henry pleaded not guilty to both of the charges, which were read to him by the acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus in Georgetown.

Police Prosecutor Quinn Harris objected to bail being granted to Henry based on the seriousness of the charges.

According to the police’s case, Henry and Joseph were employed at a mining camp. In November, 2018, during which time Joseph was left in charge of the mining camp, Henry requested the key for the generator and became annoyed when Joseph refused. On November 13th, 2018, it is alleged, Joseph was attacked by Henry, who hit him on both of his legs and tied his hands being his back. It is also alleged that Henry tied up other workers who were also at the camp and threw gasoline on them.

Bail was refused to Henry and he was remanded to prison until February 4th, when the matters are to be heard at the Matthews Ridge Magistrate’s Court.
