LONDON, CMC – All-rounder Jason Holder is the only West Indies player selected to the ICC teams-of-the-year, announced yesterday.
The Windies Test captain found a place in the Test team led by India skipper Virat Kohli, following an outstanding year which saw him dominate in the longest format.
Holder picked up 33 wickets from six Tests at an average of 11.87 – the best by any bowler in a calendar year for the last century.
His performances catapulted him up the ICC rankings where he lies tenth in the bowling rankings and second in the all-rounders charts.
Overall, the Barbadian has taken 86 wickets from 35 Tests at an average of 28.50.
Holder is preparing to lead West Indies in a three-Test series against England beginning at Kensington Oval in Barbados today. He missed the recent tour of Bangladesh with injury but is fit again.
The 27-year-old is one of four seamers in the ICC Test team, with South African Kagiso Rabada, Pakistan’s Mohammad Abbas and Indian Jasprit Bumrah all included.
Australia’s Nathan Lyon is the front-line spinner.
Kohli was also named captain of the ICC one-day team-of-the-year, which includes the likes of fellow Indian Rohit Sharma, England’s Joe Root and New Zealand’s Ross Taylor.
