American charged with forging will granted $50,000 bail

An American accused of forging a will, claiming it was issued by the Ministry of Legal Affairs, was granted bail on Friday, after the charge was read to him at a city court.

The charge read by Magistrate Leron Daly, alleged that on March 2, 2018, at Georgetown, Michael Ross, with intent to defraud, forged a declaration purporting to show that same was issued by the Public Trustee Office.

Facts presented by Prosecutor Sanj Singh, stated that on June 22, 2018, Jennifer McCalman reported to the police that a declaration in the matter of the estate of the late Robert Thompson, had a discrepancy; that is to say, a scratch of the name “Brenda Hunte Tudor”, initialed “M.R”— omitting her name from the declaration in order that she may not be part of the said declaration.

Ross pleaded not guilty the charge and was granted $50,000 bail on the condition that he lodges his passport and reports to the Brickdam Police Station every other Monday at 9 am.

The next scheduled hearing will be on March 1, 2019.
