Forum on issues affecting women

Dear Editor,

CPIC Monique’s Helping Hands, and Guyanese Women Roundtable (GWR) will host a forum aimed at allowing women throughout the country a platform to address issues affecting them. Women are the largest voting block in the Guyana. The forum will be held at Tasty Dish Conference Room at 20 David Street, Kitty on February 27, 2019, 5:30- 7:30 pm.

The format which the session will take encourages the public to ask questions, receive information and become a part of the discussion on issues affecting women.

The opening session will include a brief voter’s education session to provide information and encourage the public to ask questions and become a part of the discussion on issues affecting women.

The keynote speaker of this event is the past Mayor of Georgetown Mavis Blair-Benn, CEO Zoywins Consulting and training Institute.

The focus will be on issues revolving around; 1. Outcome-based projects to increase civic engagement and base-building and voter’s empowerment of women; 2. Education on the political process, leadership development, and preparation of young women interested in playing a role in the political process; and 3. Engagement of women in policy discussions, to ensure significant impact of women voters in the political process.

GWR is an arm of the CPIC Monique’s NGO which focuses on social activism intergenerational civic engagement network, Soca De Vote initiative, and Women Civic Participation.  At the forefront of championing just and equitable public policy on behalf of women, GWR seeks to promote women’s health and wellness, economic security, education and global empowerment as key elements for success.

GWR comprises a diverse group of women, and community-based organizations. Together, the GWR membership represents the issues and concerns of thousands of Guyanese and families who live across the Guyana and Guyanese women around the world.

Thus, GWR seeks to bring together women representing diverse views and interests within the Guyanese community around the theme of women’s advancement with a particular focus on motivating women to engage in all levels of civil society. Through public policy forums, leadership training, and civic engagement and issue education campaigns, GWR provides women with a voice and the skills training to use the political process to improve the quality of life for themselves and their communities.
