A match-winning spell from 11- year-old leg-spinner Riyad Latif spun Demerara past defending champions Berbice in the final of this year’s Guyana Cricket Board Dave West Indian Imports Under-15 Inter-County one day competition at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC), Bourda, yesterday.

Demerara won by seven wickets.

Latif, who looked unplayable, bamboozled Berbice’s middle order to snare 4-29 from his full complement of 10 overs as Berbice were bundled out for a mere 72 in 40.4 overs. He was supported by off-spinner Krishna Singh who finished with 2-4 from 6.4 overs.

The tournament’s only century maker, Rampertab Ramnauth (21) top-scored for Berbice before he was dismissed by all-rounder Thaddeus Lovell (1-14) in what was a disappointing batting effort by the former champs.

Demerara, in response, reached 78 for 3 in 17 overs with little fuss to complete the seven-wicket win. West Indies Under – 15 batsman Mavindra Dindayal led the way with an unbeaten innings of 37 which included three fours. He found company in the end with Zachary Jodah (6*).

Bhaskar Dhani (2-21) captured two of the wickets to fall for Berbice.

Carting off with the individual awards were Ramnauth who ended the tournament with 215 runs with the highest score of 147.

He came in ahead of Jadon Campbell who tallied 159 runs. On the bowling side, Matthew Pottayo had the highest wicket tally after taking 12 wickets. He finished ahead of his Berbician teammate Sachin Balgobin who ended with eight wickets.
