Plaisance Guardians, Pacesetters reach U23 final

Plaisance Guardians and Pacesetters will face-off in the U23 final of the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association [GABA]/’Lets Bet Sports’ knockout tournament following semi-final wins on Saturday.

Staged at the Burnham Court, Middle and Carmichael Streets, Plaisance Guardians defeated Eagles 86-81. Nigel Bowen and Terrence Daniels were the top scorers with 24 and 22 points respectively in the win.

Supporting with 12, 12 and eight points respectively were Delroy Critchlow, Akeem Crandon and Jared Sears.

For Eagles, Sherland Gillis and Shamar Huntley tallied 26 and 25 points respectively. Adding 16 points was Anthony Vansen.

Meanwhile, Pacesetters defeated UG Trojans 58-49. Zion Gray and Troy David top scored in the win with 13 points respectively. Chipping in with seven points was Akinni Wilson.

For UG Trojans, Lugard Mohan jr., top scored with eight points while Denzel Ross and Kadeem Peterkin assisted with seven points each.

Up to press time, the final and third place encounters were underway. The event which is sponsored by the Guyana Lottery Company, continues tomorrow at the same venue with the commencement of the first and second divisions respectively.   The second division will feature five teams competing in a single elimination tournament. The opening match will pit Sonics against Vikings with the winner advancing to the semi-final round, along with Guardians, Pacesetters and Eagles.

Similarly, the first division will commence with Sonics battling UG Trojans. That division will feature eight teams and will last for the duration of seven days.
