Relatives of miner crushed in Mazaruni accident awaiting investigation update

Relatives of the Cummings Lodge miner who was crushed to death last Saturday night in Mazaruni, are devastated by his sudden death, and are still awaiting further information on the matter from the police.

Fifty-seven-year-old Khemraj Singh was crushed to death after a four-wheel drive pick-up rolled off a hill and crashed into a mining camp at Duck Pond Backdam, Mazaruni.

When Stabroek News visited Singh’s 7th Street, Cummings Lodge home, family members stated that they are having a hard time coping with his death, as some other family members recently passed away.

Singh’s sister-in-law told Stabroek News, “Everybody having a hard time with it you know. It just come so sudden, plus like the last couple months we had dead in the family”.

His sister-in-law also added that they haven’t received any further information from the police.

Previous reports indicate that police from Mazaruni, Region Seven have launched an investigation into the miner’s death. Their initial investigations revealed that the pick-up, PKK 7375, was at the top of the hill when the driver exited to check the head lamps.

According to the police, the vehicle crashed into the mining camp that Singh shared with his son and a female. While the vehicle landed on Singh, the other occupants of the site were able to escape.

The man was picked up and taken to the Bartica Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
