Police in medical outreaches at Bartica, Lethem

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) as part of its focus on its human resource has embarked on a series of medical outreaches spearheaded by its Welfare Department.

According to a GPF press release, the Force’s Welfare Officer, Deputy Superintendent Jewel Sullivan recently hosted a medical outreach to its ‘F’ Division which was held at the Bartica Community Centre.

The commander of ‘F’ Division, Senior Superintendent Kevin Adonis and his team along with residents of Bartica, were given health talks, dental check-ups and cleaning, HIV testing and counselling, blood pressure testing and body mass index among other medical services by a team comprising of doctors from the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), headed by Regional Health Officer, Dr Niaal Outtman, counsellors, as well as personnel from the Welfare Section of the GPF.

On Wednesday the Welfare Department along with the MoPH team and a representative of the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) also visited Lethem, ‘F’ Division (Interior Locations), where an outreach was held at the Indigenous People’s Conference Hall, Central Lethem.

 A total of 26 ranks, from the Lethem Police Station and other neighbouring stations attended and received medical services such as blood pressure, malaria and dengue fever testing as well as dental checkups among other services.

 Deputy Superintendent Jewel Sullivan took the opportunity to discuss the various services offered by the department with those present, and encouraged the ranks to make full use of the services some of which can also be accessed by relatives of members of the Force. The representative from the NIS also enlightened the participants about the functions of the entity.

The GPF disclosed that similar outreaches were done in Bartica ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’ and ‘E’ Divisions and visits to ‘G’ Division and the Special Constabulary Headquarters, are scheduled for April, 16 and 19 respectively.
