D’Edward Cricket Club and Cotton Tree Die Hard Cricket Club will clash in the historic Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) West Berbice Perry Gossai Memorial 100-ball final today.

The tournament is sponsored by Attorney-at-Law Arudrnauth Gossai and family in honour of his late father who was an outstanding lawyer from Woodley Park, West Coast, Berbice. The tournament is specially organised by the BCB for teams in the West Berbice Sub-Association.

The tournament started with 14 teams including Blairmont Community Centre, Paradise, Bush Lot United, Bush Lot Rising Star, Cotton Tree Cricket Club, Shieldstown Cricket Club, Achievers Cricket Club, No. 5 Cricket Club, D’Edward Cricket Club, Hopetown Cricket Club and Bath Cricket Club.

Bush Lot Rising Star, Cotton Tree Die Hard and D’Edward reached the final three after two knockout rounds as Cotton Tree Die Hard defeated Bush Lot Rising Star in the first playoff match and then D’Edward thrashed Bush Lot Rising Star to knock them out of the tournament.

According to the organizing team, predicting a winner for the final is difficult as both teams are balanced on paper. D’Edward however, might start as favorites but Cotton Tree Die Hard are known for their fighting spirit.

D’Edward’s efforts would be spearheaded by Altaf Khan, Heeralall Bridgelall, Romesh Boodram, J. Heeralall, Keith Fraser and Derick Lalsa while Cotton Tree Die Hard on the other hand would depend heavily on Nick Ramsaroop, N. Gafoor, Roshan Gafoor, D. Harrynarine, Fawaz Gafoor and A. Shiwtahal.

The action bowls off at 13.00 hours with the sponsors and BCB President Hilbert Foster witnessing the action and present to hand out prizes to the Winner, Runner-up and Man of the Finals.

This would be the second tournament that the BCB has arranged for teams in West Berbice following the Magic Moments 20/20 Tournament last year.

The main objectives of the Internal Zone tournaments are to promote the game at the grassroot level, to develop social cohesion at the village levels and to identify new talent.
