Garrido-Lowe leads votes for new AFC Executive

In addition to new leaders, delegates at the biennial National Conference of the Alliance For Change (AFC) last Saturday also voted on representation on the party’s Executive as well as its youth and women’s arms.

On its Facebook page, the AFC informed that the 12-member executive will comprise Members of Parliament Valerie Garrido-Lowe, Michael Carrington and Bernard Rajkumar along with Vincent Adams, Sherod Duncan, Allison Mohamed, former Minister Dominic Gaskin, Nicola Trotman, Ricky Ramsaroop, Neilson Mackenzie, Derek Basdeo and Trevor Williams.

Based on the information gathered, Garrido-Lowe was the most favoured candidate among the delegates. She received 108 votes, followed by the 102 and 90 received by Adams and Carrington, respectively.

Juretha Fernandes was elected the President of the party’s youth arm, Youths for Change (YFC), with Ayodele Roache as the Vice-President. Kenny Valladares is the new National Secretary, Shanese Richards, the National Treasurer, and Winston Maynard is the Assistant Secretary/Treasurer.

With regards to the women’s arm, Women for Change (WFC), Tammy Khan was elected Chairperson.

During the conference, which was held at St. Paul’s Retreat Centre on the East Coast of Demerara, Khemraj Ramjattan, who currently holds the post of Public Security Minister in the coalition government, was elected Leader and was later selected by an overwhelming majority to be the party’s choice for the prime ministerial candidate at the next general elections.

Incumbent leader Raphael Trotman was elected Chairman, while Cathy Hughes and David Patterson were elected the Vice Chairperson and the General Secretary, respectively.
