Gavin Lewis on Monday evening produced a stellar effort in the men’s category of the ongoing GBTI/GTA Open competition to dispose of defending champion Anthony Downes in the quarterfinal at GBTI’s Lawn Tennis Court and facilities, Bel Air, Georgetown. 

It was Downes’ first defeat in over seven years which saw him dropping the first set 3-6. He then struck back in the second, winning it 6-2 before the Lewis closed out the match 6-4 to book his semifinal spot.

In the lone final of the evening, Joshua Kalekyez copped the boys singles title by defeating Virah Sharma who retired hurt during the second set 6-2, 3-0. 

Meanwhile, action in the ladies category saw Cristy Campbell making light work of Akilah Jones 6-0, 6-1 while Kizzy Richmond had the better of Simone Boucher by a similar margin in their round robin matches.

Acting in the men’s over 35 category saw Leland Leacock defeating Steven David – Longe 6-4, 6-1. In men’s open doubles action, Andre Lopes and Gregoire Vincent combining to down Devon Gonsalves and Aubrey Younge 6-0, 6-3.
