LONDON, CMC – Barbados-born England star, Chris Jordan, struck a half-century in a robust all-round display for Sussex but failed to stop Worcestershire securing a small lead on the second day of their Division Two County Championship clash here yesterday.
Resuming the morning on 44 with Sussex on 185 for six, Jordan made 52 as his side were dismissed for 255 in their first innings at Kidderminster.
The 30-year-old struck seven fours and a six in a breezy 62-ball knock, extending his seventh wicket stand with captain Ben Brown (80) to 92.
Tail-ender Ollie Robinson then lashed 38 from 51 balls, helping to add a further 56 for the eighth wicket with Brown, who was last out after facing 160 balls and striking 12 fours.
In reply, Worcestershire slumped to 11 for two in the fourth over after Robinson knocked over both openers but Australian Callum Ferguson (56) and Riki Wessells (55) struck half-centuries in a 93-run, third wicket stand to arrest the slide.
Seamer Jordan made the breakthrough when he found Wessells’s probing edge for Robinson to take a low catch at first slip. Ross Whiteley made a patient 21 in adding 48 for the fourth wicket with Ferguson before Jordan removed both in the first over.
First, he had left-hander Whiteley caught at mid-off attempting to slap a bouncer and then claimed Ferguson to a catch in the covers.
Jordan has so far picked up three for 52.
Slumping on 152 for five, Worcestershire recovered courtesy of an unbeaten 53 from Ben Cox who put on 74 for the sixth wicket with Ed Barnard (29) and 36 in an unbroken seventh wicket with Brett D’Oliveira (20 not out).
