Jeffrey is national road race female champion

Add national road race champion to the resume of Denise Jeffrey.

One day after winning the Time-Trial championship, Jeffrey easily added the female National Road Race Trophy to her collection.

Undaunted by the intermittent drizzles yesterday Jeffrey, bested Elizabeth Small and Shenika Texeira to earn the title after dominating the time-trial event on Saturday.

In the 53-mile race from Homestretch Avenue to Timehri’s bottleneck and back, Jeffrey stopped the clock in two hours, 24 minutes and 16 seconds, miles ahead of Small (2:32.15) and Texeira (3:11:55).

In the male side of things, Andrew Spencer had the perfect post Father’s Day gift when he crossed the line in pole to take the spoils of the veteran category in a close finish ahead of Paul Chooweenam and a game Alex Mendes.

For the grueling 80-mile trek from Homestretch Avenue to Long Creek on the Linden/Soesdyke Highway and back, Spencer recorded a winning time of three hours, 16 minutes and 10 seconds. 

Meanwhile, Ajay Gopilall (3:26.40) is the new Junior champion after bettering Ralph Seenarine in close battle.

Note: The elite riders will saddle up on Sunday on the same route also from 07:30hrs, however, they will proceed to Moblissa on the Linden Highway.

Time-Trial champion, Briton John is expected to be tested by standout riders like Paul DeNobrega, Michael Anthony, Jamal John, Curtis Dey, Balram Narine, Alonzo Ambrose and others.
