Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) can now access information on social services available to them, following the launch of a website by the National Commission on Disability.

“The website was created after we observed that persons kept calling requesting information; specifically related to PWDs and the work of the commission… They will be able  to find basic information about the commission, more specifically its vision, roles and functions, information relating to persons with disabilities,” the Commission’s Database Entry Clerk and Website Manager, Antonio Miller told the Department of Public Information (DPI).

The website address is www.ncdguyana.org.

The website will include information on services such as public assistance and tax exemption, the latter requiring persons to fill out a form, take it to the Commission, which will then forward it to the Guyana Revenue Authority to have the exemption put into effect.

Accessing these services requires first registering with the Commission, which can be easily done via a form located on the website.

“Once you are registered with us, there are services that you can access, such as public assistance. We can refer you to the Ministry of Social Protection; however, we are in the process of uploading the public assistance form to the website.  But soon enough PWDs will be able to download that form, fill it up and bring in to our office,” Miller explained.

Miller said that the website will be updated monthly with a newsletter, videos and additional forms linking persons with disabilities to agencies that may require their service.
