A fish cleaner who police said was found with 20 grammes of cannabis, was yesterday sentenced to two years in jail after he admitted to a charge of possession at a city court.

Darren Sears pleaded ‘guilty with explanation’ to a charge which stated that on June 25, at Hunter Street, Albouystown, he had 20 grammes of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.

The charge was read to him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court Five.

In his explanation, Sears stated that he was walking home from work when he spotted a bag filled with the narcotic on the ground. “I does work for a low salary and I saw it as an opportunity for me that’s why I pick it and tek a chance,” Sears explained.

Magistrate Faith McGusty subsequently sentenced Sears to two years in jail for the offence.
