A 20-year-old Guyana Defence Force rank was yesterday committed to stand trial for the alleged rape of an 11-year-old girl.

Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus found that there was sufficient evidence to have Reon Joseph stand trial at the High Court after the completion of a preliminary trial into the charge.

The charge alleged that Joseph, of Wren Avenue, South Ruimveldt, between December 1st and December 31st, 2017, at South Ruimveldt Gardens, engaged in sexual penetration with a child under the age of 16.

The magistrate granted Joseph his release on $300,000 bail pending the trial.
