Exciting national Under-19 pair Ashmead Nedd and Sachin Singh were yesterday handed a cash donation a day before winging out to represent Guyana at the 2019 Cricket West Indies regional U19 championships in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

The committee has been making sponsorship interventions for Singh since his Under-15 playing days while their support for Nedd has recently come on stream.

The Guyana Committee of Service was formed with the aim of assisting local sports and culture personalities whenever urgent needs arise. It initially got into the act of giving back to Guyanese athletes and officials in 2016 when local boxing champion Clive Atwell made a plea for support to offset his medical treatment abroad.

Since then, the committee, headed by Chairman Eugene Noel and his deputy Lyndon ‘Jumbie’ Jones, have organised several fund-raising events in an effort to support the local sporting fraternity.  The committee will be hosting a raffle on August 31 at the National Communications Network to raise funds to continue their noble effort of supporting local talent. Tickets cost $500 and they are urging persons to come out and support.
