Trotman reports upward trend in gold declarations

By the end of July, almost 400,000 ounces of gold had been declared for the year, which Natural Resources Minister Raphael Trotman has said represents a “stead and pleasing upward trend” after a decline last year.

Speaking on Wednesday at a 40th anniversary celebration of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) at the Ramada Princess Hotel, Trotman said declarations for the year are higher than projected, while noting that some 300,673.80 had been projected for the period January to June.

Last year, gold declarations were recorded at 613,072.96 ounces, compared to 653,754.41 in 2017.

He said the latest figures indicate an approximate average of 55,000 ounces per month for 2019.

“Only yesterday, we were able to review the latest reports that show 74,000 oz. produced by Aurora Gold Mines, which tells us that it has shaken off its internal issues [that] dogged it for many months and is returning to full strength and viability,” he said.
