Trinidad man charged with murders of five fishermen

(Trinidad Express) Sea-lots, Port of Spain resident Kareem Stanisclaus has appeared in court charged with murdering five fishermen,, the attempted murders of two, and six offences of robbery.

Stanisclaus, 27, appear-ed before Couva magistrate Christine Charles on charges laid by Sergeant Teeluck, corporal Ramoutar and constable Augustus.

It is alleged that on dates unknown betweeen July 21 and 30 and between the areas of Felicity River and Waterloo Village, Carapichaima he murdered Shiva Ramdeo, Brandon Kissoon, Leslie De Boulet, Hemraj Sooknanan and Anand Rampersad.

It was also alleged that he attempted to murder Brian Seemungal and Robbie Jaggernath.

Stanisclaus also faced six charges along with Shaquille Roberts and two women Mya Bowrin and Iyola John. It is alleged that between July 22 July and 23 at the Gulf of Paria Carli Bay armed with cutlasses and gun, they robbed their victims of a boat, two boat engines, containers with fuel and cellular phones. Items were together valued over $132,000.

Charles remanded Stanisclaus into custody until August 28. On that date, Bowrin,19 of Gsparillo, and John, 18 of St Madeleine, will also reappear in court.

The teenagers were each placed on $100,000 bail.

Roberts, 25 of Sea Lots, Port of Spain, was denied bail to reappear on Tues-day after Charles requested a tracing of his criminal record.

Stanisclaus and Roberts were represented by attorney Celeste St Louis who held for attorney Richard Clarke Wils.
