Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ National Championship kicks off tonight

The Jubilee Tarmac Park will be a battlefield tonight when the eagerly anticipated Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ National Championship officially kicks off.

Twelve matches will be played on the evening. The opening match will pit Up-Top-Bosses against Paradise-A from 19:00hrs, with East Coast Demerara winner Melanie-B opposing Showstoppers at 19:30hrs and West Demerara champion Brothers United tackling Sophia at 20:00hrs.

The fourth contest will witness Ballers Empire engaging Albouystown-B at 20:30hrs, while Bartica titlist Beacons match skills with Sparta Boss at 21:00hrs and Linden champion High Rollers face-off with Sparta Boss from 21:30hrs.

In the final two matches, Berbice champion Trafalgar takes aim at Broad Street from 22:00hrs and defending champion Gold is Money match skills with Bartica Police at 22:30hrs.

Winners of the aforementioned matches will progress to the quarterfinal round. The two-day elimination tournament competition concludes on Saturday at the same venue with the semi-final round and eventual finale.

Georgetown will be represented by six teams. They are defending champion Gold is Money, Albouystown-B, Sophia, Broad St, Leopold St and Sparta Boss. Four representatives hail from the West Demerara in the form of West Dem champion Brothers United, Showstoppers, Ballers Empire and Up-Top-Bosses.

Meanwhile, two teams – champion Beacons and Police – for Bartica, and champion Melanie-B and Paradise-A for East Coast Demerara, will represent those districts.

The remaining two will be Berbice champion Trafalgar, and Linden champion High Rollers.

According to an official release from tournament coordinator Three Peat Promotions, “The anticipation for the national championship is at an all-time high. Several teams will be invading the Georgetown district to prove their championship credentials which will produce an exciting and thrilling championship.”

The release further said, “We expect the teams and the fans to come out in their droves to represent as the visiting teams have been arduously preparing for this moment in which they put their abilities against the traditional giants of the sport.”
