The main access road for Hauraruni, along the Linden-Soesdyke Highway, is to be repaired, according to the Department of Public Informa-tion (DPI).

Minister of Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs, Sydney Allicock met yesterday with residents of the small community, located about a mile off the Linden Highway.

During the meeting, he committed to taking the issues raised to the respective ministries and agencies but several matters were resolved on the spot.

Among them, DPI said,  is the rehabilitation of the main access road to the community. Much to their satisfaction, DPI said that the residents were informed that the Minis-try of Public Infrastructure will soon commence work on the road, bringing an end to years of an impassable thoroughfare.

With the government being described as having caretaker status by the Caribbean Court of Justice in the aftermath of the December 21, 2018 motion of no confidence, there has been growing interest  in what it is promising communities.

Residents also learnt from the E-Governance unit of the Ministry of Public Telecom-munications that in less than a month, an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) hub will be created in the community.

Addressing the power shortage to the primary school in the community, Allicock said the current solar system powering the school could be used as a kick-start for the establishment of a solar farm.

He encouraged residents to use their initiatives to aid in the transformation of their communities. For Hauraruni, he called on leaders to develop a Village improvement Plan (VIP) for development
