Runaway teen girls assisting police with investigation

The teenage girls who were rescued by the Child Care and Protection Agency (CCPA) last week after running away from home, yesterday gave statements to the police.

CCPA Director Ann Greene last night confirmed that the girls were taken to the police yesterday and gave their statements on the activities their mother allowed in the home.

The teenage girls have alleged that their mother would allow men to engage in sexual activities with them.

The woman is presently in police custody while the girls who escaped from home remain in state care.

The police are currently investigating the matter in an effort to determine their next course of action.

Greene on Monday, told Stabroek News the girls have been receiving counselling and medical attention.

“They came to us in a really bad shape. We had to get them into counselling and have them medically examined. They were badly neglected and we have been able to so far take care of the neglect part,” Greene explained.

The girls on Thursday last, ran away from home, went to the police, and reported their story. As a result, the CCPA was contacted and the girls were placed in the agency’s care. Greene said her officers have been working around the clock to ensure the girls receive the care they require at this time.
