Gilbert Thomas, the man who is accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend and her new partner during an argument at Hururu Mission, Berbice River one week ago, was yesterday remanded to prison after he was charged with two counts of felonious wounding.

Thomas appeared at the Linden Magistrate’s Court, where he was not required to plead to the indictable charges.

He was remanded to prison until September 6th, when his next hearing is slated.

The police had said last Wednesday that Dally Gobin, 48, and her partner, Learmond Smith, 40, were consuming alcohol at the former’s residence at Hururu Mission, Upper Berbice River.

Thomas visited the residence and started an argument with Gobin.

During the argument, police alleged that Thomas, who was armed with a knife, stabbed Gobin and Smith.

They were both rushed to Kwakwani Hospital for medical attention and later transferred to the Linden Hospital Complex, where they were both admitted. Smith has been discharged from the hospital, while Gobin remains a patient. Her condition is listed as stable.
