Guyana boys’ U-13 A, B teams reach quarters of Caribbean Mini and Pre-cadet C/ships

Jonathan Van Lange and Krystian Sahadeo helped Guyana notch up two impressive wins over the host and Puerto Rico respectively on the opening day in the teams’ category of the 2019 Caribbean Mini and Pre-cadet championships currently being played in the Dominican Republic. 

Guyana, in the first round defeated the Dominican Republic B1 3-1. Van Lange was first on the table and lost 1-11, 5-11, 12-14 to Andelson Acevedo. 

Sahadeo pulled a game back for the Guyanese after he accounted for Abraham Cabral 12-10, 8-11, 13-11, 11-9 to tie the contest at one game apiece.

The Guyanese duo the teamed up in the doubles matchup and had further success against Andelson Acevedo and Cabral, winning 8-11, 12-14, 11-6, 13-11, 11-7. 

Van Lange completed the 3-1 win by downing Cabral 13-11, 11-7, 11-9. 

The Guyanese pair then booked their place in the quarter by defeating Puerto Rico 3-2 at the end of their second encounter. 

Meanwhile, the under 13 male B team comprising Colin Wong and Dhanesh Persaud were also successful in securing a quarterfinal berth. The pair suffered a 0-3 loss to the Dominican Republic A in their first round of matches before accounting for Jamaica 3-0 to move to the second round. 

The girls under -11 team did not qualify for the quarters after going down to Trinidad and Tobago and the hosts. The boys under – 11 team were locked in battle with the host for a spot in the quarters.
