Housing authority issues warning about ‘scammers’

The Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA) has issued an advisory to the general public stating that the Authority is the only government department authorised to allocate housing units and lots.

According to a Department of Housing release, there is currently in operation, a fake Facebook profile purporting to be in the name of President David Granger, stating that the Ministry of the Presidency is allocating twenty housing units to interested persons. Interested persons are being asked to make a down payment of $350,000 through GTT’s Money Mobile System to an unknown account.

The CHPA has emphasised that “no such programme is being run by the Ministry of the Presidency, nor is the Central Housing and Planning Authority working in collaboration with any agency on such a programme.” In addition, there is no system in place for persons to make payments for housing units or lots through GTT’s Money Mobile System as all payments for housing units or lots are made to the Central Housing and Planning Authority’s Brickdam office or its Regional offices.

Members of the public are asked to exercise vigilance and not fall prey to “scammers” and to contact the CHPA’s Brickdam office or its Regional offices for information on any of its housing initiatives, the release added.
