(Trinidad Guardian) Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Roger Gaspard, SC, has advised police to charge Public Service Association (PSA) Watson Duke with sedition.

Responding to questions at the post-Cabinet press briefing, last evening, National Security Minister Stuart Young confirmed that he had been briefed on the recent development in Duke’s case.

Duke was detained by police on Monday after they executed search warrants at the PSA’s headquarters at Abercromby Street in Port-of-Spain and at his home.

Duke complained of feeling unwell and was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope, where he remained warded until late yesterday evening when he was discharged and return-ed to police custody.

He complained feeling unwell once again this morning and was returned to the hospital.

Police are expected to wait until he is cleared by doctors for a second time before they offical lay the charge against him. The process is expected to be completed late this evening or early tomorrow morning to facilitate his court appearance.

Guardian Media understands that the investigation relates to statements on planned layoffs at TSTT, T&TEC, and WASA, which Duke made on November 16, 2018

Duke said then: “We must be prepared to die, folks. You know why? This is your belief, this is your family, and I am sending the message clear, let Rowley them know that the day they come for us in WASA, we are prepared to die and the morgue would be picking up people.”
