Two to face trial over America St moneychanger’s murder

Two men were yesterday committed to stand trial for the murder of America Street moneychanger Shawn Nurse, who was fatally shot during a robbery last year.

At the conclusion of the Preliminary Inquiry into the joint murder charge against Kerwin Dos Santos, George Hope and Kacey Heyliger yesterday at the Providence Magis-trate’s Court, Magistrate Judy Latchman committed Dos Santos and Hope to stand trial at the next practicable sitting of the Demerara Assizes and discharged Heyliger.

The three were accused of murdering Nurse, known as ‘Fabulous,’ on February 4th, 2018, at America Street and Avenue of the Republic, George-town.

Nurse, 47, a father of three, was shot once in the face, just under the left eye, during a robbery.

The police had said that he was seated on a chair at the corner of America Street and Avenue of the Republic, where an armed perpetrator approached him with a weapon drawn and demanded that he hand over his money.

Prosecutor Shawn Gonsalves led the police force’s case during the inquiry.
