Bartica man accused of door theft claims unaware that he was stealing

A Bartica man accused of stealing a metal grill door told a city court on Friday that he did not know he was stealing.

Collin Miller, 38, of 147 Seventh Avenue, Diamond Housing Scheme, appeared in the courtroom of Senior Magistrate Leron Daly and pleaded not guilty to a charge which stated that on August 28th, he stole a metal grill door valued $35,000.

Miller asked the magistrate for a chance to explain what happened. When addressing the court, he said that he recently came from Bartica and was staying with a man who sent him to collect a door. He said that “the man send me to collect the door and it sound like the door is he own.” However, he later learnt that the door was being stolen.

Facts in the matter were not disclosed but it was indicated that the door was recovered. Miller was released on $15,000 bail and ordered to return to court on September 30th for report.
