Newcomer Dynamic FC of East Coast Demerara upset the Guyana Police Force [GPF] 1-0 when the 4th annual Limacol Football Championship commenced Saturday at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.

An own goal in the second minute proved to be the difference between the sides in the cagey affair as a GPF defender inexplicably directed his header into the back of the net, following a right side corner kick.

The best chance for the lawmen fell to Amoniki Buntin in the 86th minute but his curling right footed free-kick from outside the top of the box, crashed into the woodwork.

With the win, Dynamics FC walked away with the vital three points. Meanwhile, Santos U20 dismissed Black Pearl 3-0. Brandon Selman recorded the only conversion of the first half, handing the youthful unit the lead in the 27th minute.

Two more conversions would follow in the second half, with Bevney McGarrell making his present felt in the 46th minute. The scoreline was then sealed in the 75th minute, as Rondel Peters found the back of the net.

The tournament continues tomorrow with another doubleheader at the same venue. Mahaica will oppose Pele at 19:00hrs in the first match, with Pouderoyen slated to battle Beacons in the feature clash at 21:00hrs.

The event which features 16 clubs from Georgetown, East Coast of Demerara, East Bank of Demerara and West Demerara, will conclude during the month of September.

The 16 teams will be divided into four groups of four, with the top two finishers from each pool progressing to the knockout round.

Group-A comprises Santos u20, Camptown, Black Pearl and Grove Hi-Tech while Fruta Conquerors u20, Buxton Stars, GFC and Northern Rangers make up group-B.

On the other hand, group-C features Riddim Squad, Pouderoyen, Eastveldt and Beacons, with group-D containing Dynamic FC, Mahaica, Police-B and Pele.

Winner of the event will pocket $400,000 and the championship trophy, while the second, third and fourth place finishers will collect $200,000, $100,000 and $50,000 respectively.
