The Ministry of Public Infrastructure (MPI) yesterday certified thirty-one students on the successful completion of their work-study.
A statement from MPI said that the students came from various schools and technical institutions in and around Georgetown and they were placed in various departments within the Ministry. These departments were Government Electrical Inspectorate, Human Resources, Traffic and Highway Light, Survey, Accounts, Hinterland Roads, Roads and Bridges, Buildings Department, and Procurement.
Minister David Patterson during his remarks congratulated the students and said, “it is important as a Ministry that we have young interns like yourself, because, we as your leaders, we are learning every day how to interact and connect with the younger generation in the workplace, we learn from you and you learn from us.”
Patterson added that there is a programme under his Ministry within the Sea and River Defence Department that is sponsored by the European Union which requires the Ministry to hire 33% of females on its work force. So, with that, “we are particularly pleased to see nineteen females out of the 31 students in total. I also wish to encourage the males not to be dismayed concerning the numbers of females, since, MoPI is a hands-on Ministry and young men like you are needed to carry this Ministry forward.”
