Golden Jaguars edge Aruba 1-0

The Golden Jaguars commenced their League-B campaign in the CONCACAF Nations League in the perfect manner, defeating host Aruba 1-0 yesterday at the Ergilio Hato Stadium, Curacao.  

Sheldon Holder ensured Guyana kept their perfect record against the Arubans in third meeting of the nations, etching his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 22nd minute to seal the vital result.

The victory was also the debut for recently appointed head-coach Brazilian Marcio Maximo, who was appointed following the resignation of previous tactician Michael Johnson.

Guyana’s starting XI consisted of Akel Clarke, Samuel Cox (C), Kevin Layne, Matthew Briggs, Liam Gordon, Clive Nobrega, Keanu Marsh-Brown, Neil Danns, Kelsey Benjamin, Daniel Wilson and Sheldon Holder. 

Guyana will now host Jamaica on September 9th in their second match of the first round at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora.  

The Golden Jaguars second round of matches will occur in October, with Guyana travelling to Antigua and Barbuda unit on the 11th, before hosting the reverse fixture three days later.

The final round of matches will then occur during the month of November. Guyana will host Aruba on the 15th, before traveling to Jamaica three days later. Winner of the group will advance to the League-A section of the competition in the subsequent edition.
