A clinical batting performance from Leon Johnson followed up by a five-wicket haul from Ronaldo Ali-Mohammed ensured Georgetown Cricket Club overwhelm the University of Guyana (UG) by an innings and 254 runs.

Play in the GISE/Star Party Rental/ Trophy Stall first-division two-day contest resumed yesterday at the GCC ground, Bourda with the hosts on 357-8 in reply to UG’s 47 in the first innings. However, three balls after tea, the match was over with GCC declaring on 405-8 and bowling out the Institution for 104.

The left-handed Johnson went in on day one on 154 but needed just six overs and 24 minutes into the new day to reach his second double ton at this level and equal highest score and see his side declaring.

Ronaldo Ali-Mohammed finished the match with 8-20

The 32-year-old test player faced just 153 balls and decorated the dominant innings with a dozen fours and nine sixes, two of which were dispatched to Regent Street over long on.

The Guyana skipper was joined at the other end by debutant, Darrius Andrews who provided the support for Johnson to reach his land mark as he faced 18 balls and scored three runs.  The pair shared an unbroken partnership of 87.

Omesh Daniram ended with 4-106 from 18 overs while Dwain Dodson returned 2-74.

In UG’s second innings, after Ali-Mohammed bowled Keon Richards (03) and Stephon Wilson trapped Goddfry Thakurdin (11) leg before wicket, their batsmen looked more settled that the first innings, going into lunch on 40-2.

However, the second session signaled the collapse as they lost six wickets for 64 runs. The stable Linden Austin was the casualty of a mix up with Daniram and was sent on his way for 20 from 44 balls.

Daniram showed his intent with three fours and a six but his aggression ultimately led to his dimise as he was caught at mid-wicket by Andrews for 29 from 31 balls off of Johnson.

Melroy Stephens with a gritty 16 and Lloyd George (11 not out) were the only other batsmen to reach double figures with Ali-Mohammed ripping through the lower order.

Dodson was sent packing due to a brilliant low catch from Johnson at first slip off of Ali-Mohammed while on the resumption after tea, he uprooted the leg stump of Devon Paul and trapped Yakeem Favourite leg before wicket the following delivery to wrap up a comprehensive performance.
