Caregiver accused of stealing almost $2M from employer

A caregiver was granted her release on $250,000 bail yesterday after being accused of stealing almost $2 million in cash and valuables from her employer.

Carla Agard, 40, was arraigned before Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty and denied the charge that on September 3rd, at Festival City, North Ruimveldt, she stole cash, jewellery, and articles all valuing $1,930,000 in total from her employer, Iyabo Watson.

Agard, who was unrepresented, pleaded not guilty to the charge. She also told the court that she had been a caregiver to an elder in the home of the virtual complainant.

Police prosecutor Analisa Brummell did not object to bail being granted. She, however, asked that conditions be attached to Agard’s bail release. As a result, the magistrate ordered that Agard lodge her passport with the court and report to the East La Penitence Police Station until the hearing and determination of the trial.

Agard’s next court appearance is on September 23rd.
