The Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) began their season with a crushing innings and 159-run win over Diplomats Sports Club at the weekend in the GCA Noble House Seafoods second-division two-day cricket competition.

DCC in their first innings, at home, posted a mammoth 389-4 declared in 59 overs with West Indies youth batsmen Raymond Perez (192) and Sachin Singh (115), the former missing out on a well-deserved double century in a knock which included several sweetly timed boundaries.

Diplomats, who ended the first day (Saturday) on 61-1, were bundled out for 127 inside 44 overs in their first innings as national under-19 selectee Daniel Mootoo wreaked havoc during his spell of 8-34. Rickford Mohamed (55) was the only batter to show any fight.

DCC, with a lead of 262 runs, opted to enforce the follow on and were  successful in bundling out the visitors for the second time in the day, this time for 103 to complete the resounding win. Inderjit Nanan mirrored Mootoo’s first innings exploits by grabbing 6-18 to headline proceedings in the second innings.
