The trial of Sheneza Jafarally, the University of Guyana (UG) student who is accused of making a bomb threat earlier this year that disrupted classes and operations at the Turkeyen Campus, is set to begin on October 8th.

Jafarally, also known as Diane, a sales consultant, was charged in February for the crime.

The charge alleges that the accused on February 5th, at Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara, sent by means of public communication, a message which she knew to be false for the purpose of causing needless anxiety to the staff and students of UG.

The trial relating to the matter is set to commence on October 8th before Magistrate Rushell Liverpool at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court.

Jafarally is being represented by attorney Latchmie Rahamat.

Jafarally was arrested on February 7th at her workplace after records from her phone allegedly linked her to the threats.

That day, UG had announced that classes at its Turkeyen Campus had been cancelled for the remainder of the week following a second bomb threat. The first threat was issued on February 5th, while the second was made the following day.

UG had said that police and fire service officers conducted a thorough search of the campus and no explosive of any kind or suspicious object was found during the search.
