We Stand United’s Briton John produced yet another remarkable solo ride to victory yesterday to win the 37-mile Rose Hall Town Day road race.

In front of around 500 Berbicans yesterday, John rode comfortably over the finish line in a time of one hour, 39 minutes and 21 seconds.

The race began under the blistering sun in front of the Rose Hall Town Independence Arch and the cyclists headed south-east all the way to Number 53 Village and back to the point of origin for the finish.

John was in the breakaway pack of four from the start of the race but Junior Niles and Kemuel Moses separated themselves from the bunch at Lancaster Village.

Paul DeNobrega and Jornel Yearwood attempting to pursue the breakaway faction were both victims of a collision while another rider was struck down by a runaway horse who trampled through the peloton a mile further.

He was rushed to the hospital where he underwent X-ray scans. Kwame Ridley and Niles were also involved in a crash.

Deeraj Garbarran then took over the lead with Niles at Eversham Village before a puncture saw him falling behind and John moving up with the Cocos rider.

John dropped Niles shortly after and led the pack by almost 15 seconds at the halfway stage. He was to maintain that dominance throughout the race.

While in cruise control, 10 miles to the finish line, John was caught by teammate, Garbarran and Cocos’ Marcus Keiler.

However, John pushed on the accelerator and stormed to victory leaving the pair in the dust, finishing 10 seconds ahead of Keiler who finished 20 seconds ahead of Garbaran.

Moses settled for fourth while Adealie Hodge and Curtis Dey were fifth and sixth respectively.

Andrew Hicks and Andre Green were relegated for being fed within the peloton despite warnings from the match officials who advised riders to go behind the pack for feeding.

Niles was crowed the veterans champion ahead of Alex Mendes and Ridley in that order while Ajay Gopilall won the junior division ahead of Jason Sampson.
