The Guyana Amazon Warriors will look to further assert themselves atop the points standings  as they hunt their sixth consecutive win in this year’s installment of the Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) when they take on the Barbados Tridents at Kensington Oval from 18:00hrs today.

Warriors are leading the pack with 10 points from five outings while Tridents, who are enduring a torrid run, are sitting in fourth place – six points adrift from Shoaib Malik’s men.

Tridents though, are heading into the match high in confidence after securing a commanding 71 run win over St Lucia Zouks on Friday evening. The win came on the back of an exciting knock from debutant Justin Greaves who cracked 57 while Jonathan Carter (30) who contributed with the bat, was exceptional in the field.

Skipper Jason Holder (2-24) and left-arm spinner Joshua Bishop (2-33) shared four wickets between them.

However, today’s contest in front of their home support will test their resolve  against Warriors who are riding high. They have been spearheaded by Shimron Hetmyer (148 runs), Malik (146 runs), Brandon King (143 runs) and Chandrapaul Hemraj (138) who have all struck match winning knocks.

The bowling on the other hand will serve up a diet of spin to the Bajan franchise. Leg spinner, Imran Tahir and Qais Kamawalalong with off spinner Chris Green, who boast of decent economy and strike rates, will test the host character against quality spin bowling.

Warriors hold the upper hand heading into the contest having defeated their counterparts by 47 runs at Providence Stadium earlier in the season. (Royston Alkins)
