A 55-year-old man was yesterday ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation after being charged with rubbing himself against a four-year-old girl.

John Fitzgerald Hopkinson was read the charge that on April 26th, in Georgetown, he engaged in sexual activity with a child under the age of 16 by bracing her to a gate and rubbing his body against her.

The young child was in her yard playing before Hopkinson allegedly accosted her.

In order to determine if he is fit to stand trial, Chief Magistrate McLennan referred Hopkinson to a psychiatrist due to his unresponsive behaviour during the in-camera hearing. He was also ordered to not make contact with the child or any witness in the matter and to stay 50 feet away from the child. He was granted his release on $20,000 bail.

The matter is expected to be heard again on October 14th.
