A mechanic was granted bail yesterday after he denied maliciously wounding a Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) worker.

Terry Ray Rutherford, 36, of Lot 45 Agricola Public Road, East Bank Demerara, appeared in the courtroom of Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus and denied the charge that on July 13th, 2019, at Agricola Public Road, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Tavel December.

In an application for bail, the unrepresented man informed the magistrate that he is a mechanic for RRT Enterprise and also the father of a minor. He also mentioned that he and his fiancée are expecting another child soon and that she would need his support.

Police prosecutor Analisa Brumell did not present facts in the matter, neither did she object to Rutherford being released on bail. She, however, mentioned to the magistrate that December works at GWI and would constantly be in the area where the defendant lives. As a result, she requested that the two were bonded to keep the peace pending the outcome of the matter.

With this information, Principal Magistrate Isaacs-Marcus released Rutherford on $20,000 bail and ordered the two to keep the peace until the case is completed. She explained that a breach of the bond would result in two weeks imprisonment. The magistrate transferred the matter to Court 6, where it is expected be heard again on September 26th.
