A miner was yesterday remanded to prison after he was charged with murdering his brother-in-law.

Anthony Edwards was brought before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, who read the charge to him in a Georgetown court.

The charge alleges that on September 15th, at Waramadong Village, Upper Mazaruni River, he murdered Dorian Brown.

Police allege that on the day in question Edwards and Brown were drinking alcohol at Waramadong when an argument ensued between them, which resulted in Edwards brandishing a knife and dealing Brown a wound to his right forearm. Brown was later rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Edwards was not required to plead to the indictable offence.

Police prosecutor Gordon Mansfield told the court that the post-mortem report on the cause of Brown’s death is still outstanding.

The Chief Magistrate subsequently remanded the accused and adjourned the matter until December 16th, when it is expected to be called at the Kamarang Magistrate’s Court.
