Billboard placement in city will no longer be free

Dear Editor,

Come 2020, persons desirous of erecting billboards in the City will have to seek written permission from the Council. Also, placing of such signs will be done at a cost.

The Georgetown City Council is seriously concerned with the amount of billboards, banners and posters that are erected at various locations in the City. The matter was the subject of intense discussion at the level of the City Works Committee. It was observed the City spaces are utilized to erect billboards, posters and banners without the written consent of the Council.

The City Engineer’s Department is tasked with the responsibility of doing an audit to determine the numbers of signs erected, the nature of the information, duration of publication and persons responsible erecting these signs.

Yours faithfully,

Debra Lewis

Public Relations Officer,

Mayor and City Council
