Lancaster pensioner loses part of house in fire

A fire of unknown origin late yesterday afternoon completely destroyed the upper flat of a 92-year-old pensioner’s house located at Lancaster Village, Corentyne.

The house which is located at Lot 12 Lancaster Village, reportedly belongs to Bernice Ramdatt Isaacs.

Stabroek News was told that, the fire started around 5.30 pm in the upper flat of the building while the pensioner was in the lower flat of the building.

According to one neighbour, residents first saw smoke emanating from a bedroom in the upper flat after which they saw flames.

The fire service was immediately summoned while residents rushed over and rescued the pensioner from the house.

Four persons occupied the house, Stabroek News was told last night.
