An accused drug trafficker was remanded to prison yesterday after police told a court that she had been under police surveillance for suspected narcotics trafficking six months prior to her arrest.

Samantha Hubbard, 41, of Lot 194 Charlotte Street, Georgetown, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on the charge that she had in her possession 142 grammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking at her home on September 25th.

The mother of two denied the charge and was remanded to prison by Senior Magistrate Leron Daly after Police prosecutor Richard Harris told the court that Hubbard had been under police surveillance for six months prior to her arrest.

According to the police’s case, Hubbard was at her home at Lot 194 Charlotte Street, Georgetown when police ranks, acting on information they received, visited and conducted a search for illegal substances. It was reported that the cocaine was found on her while cannabis was allegedly found in her bag. A charge for the suspected cannabis was not read in court on Friday.

The woman’s attorney, Dexter Todd, told the court that his client lives with 16 cousins and that when the suspected cannabis was found, she neither denied nor admitted to ownership of the bag. As it relates to the cocaine, he explained that nothing was found on his client. He said that he was surprised that an assault charge wasn’t read because according to the information his client gave, both herself and an officer were tugging at the bag before the suspect cocaine fell out and onto the floor.

He maintained his client’s innocence by stating that no illegal substances were found on Hubbard.  She was nevertheless remanded until her next hearing, which is slated for October 21st.
