A powerhouse quartet of experience has returned to the West Berbice Franchise ahead of next month’s Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), Cricket Guy Inc. (CGI) Jaguars 50-over franchise tournament.

Most notable among the list are West Indies batsman, Shimron Hetmyer. The Cricket West Indies contracted player has been a mainstay in the West Indies side for almost two years including the ICC World Cup team before being appointed ‘batting director’ of the Guyana Amazon Warriors.

Hetmyer is likely to reprise his role as skipper of the side that will feature CGI contracted players Gudakesh Motie and Keon Joseph, both of whom have played for the West Indies A team before.

Academy player and former national under-19 all-rounder, Kevin Sinclair has secured himself a spot on the side as well.

With the bat, Sinclair has built a reputation as a belligerent opener that usually sets his team on a good platform for big scores while with the ball, his off-break has troubled the best batsmen in the country.

Sinclair also brings a level head to the team, having captaincy experience at the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club.

Also on the list is Sinclair’s national youth teammate, Javed Karim, who recently returned from a stint in the United States where he was considered to be one of the best batsmen in the tournament. He is also a capable seam bowler.

The squad has gone in a younger generation direction and sees the likes of Blairmont Cricket Club’s Nigel Deodat, Marvan Prasad and Seon Glasgow alongside Christopher Harry and Shamar Angel, all of whom played in the local Inter-County tournament at the Under-19 level.

Senior campaigners such as Quacy McPherson, Leon Andrews, Andrew Dutchin, Kevin Jawahir, Raffle Estraido, Stephon Andrews, Derick McCalmon, Keyron Fraser, Hakash Hartilall and Jayden Samuel complete the squad.

Last year, West Berbice were the only Franchise to defeat eventual champions, Essequibo in the final round at Bush Lot.

The association noted that these players are required to come out on Wednesday and Thursday at the Bush Lot Ground, West Berbice from 15.00 hours, in order to begin training. It is likely more players can find themselves contending for spots.
