An intense final between defending champions GCC Pitbulls and Old Fort Ballerz saw the latter dethroning their GCC counterparts to take championship honours in the under – 20 category of the 2019 Solo Drinks outdoor hockey league which ended at the Saint Stanislaus College Ground, yesterday.

The match ended 2-1. Pitbulls who entered the match three points ahead of Ballerz, failed to convert a number of promising runs. However, it was the eventual champs who first rattled the back of the net – a field goal off the stick of Shaquon Favourite in the 20th minute.

Theoudore Thierens made it 2-0 when he netted in the 37th minute before GCC converted a consolation goal in the 38th.

The 2-1 result saw both teams finishing the league on 19 points but it was Ballerz goal difference, 22 to Pitbulls’ 12 which gave them the title. The identical scenario played out in 2018 where GCC copped the title.

The top individual awards went to GCC’s Kareem McKenzie who copped the most valuable player award while most goals went to Ballerz’s Favourite who completed 12 conversions.

Ballerz’s Paul D’Andrade gloved the best kept prize while Yonnick Norton of Old Fort Generalz took the most promising players award.
