The prosecution yesterday closed its case in the matter against constable John Holder, who is charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice in the attempted murder matter involving Maryann Daby.

Daby was freed of the attempted murder charge in July but faces other gun-related charges.

Holder faces a charge that alleged that between August 10th, 2018 and October 2nd, 2018 at Georgetown, he attempted to pervert the course of justice by deviating from his statement in the case of the police versus Maryann Daby.

Daby was charged with the attempted murder of Constable 24785 Christopher Kissoon; however, that matter was dismissed in July after the police failed to prove their case.

During yesterday’s court proceedings, Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus ruled in a voir dire that statements, both written and oral, allegedly given by Holder, were made freely and voluntarily.

Subsequently, Police Prosecutor Shellon Daniels closed the prosecution’s case.

Holder’s attorney Stephen Roberts then requested a date for written submissions to be presented to the court. A date was also set for the prosecutor to present her response.

The ruling in the matter is expected to be handed down on November 7th.
